Equine assisted learning

Our Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) program offers hands-on sessions where children, young people, and adults actively build confidence, communication, and emotional awareness through meaningful interactions with horses. Additionally, participants engage in ground-based activities such as grooming and leading, rather than riding, which creates a safe and inclusive environment for everyone. By spending time with horses and connecting with nature, they not only strengthen resilience but also improve social skills and gain a deeper understanding of themselves and others. All of this takes place within the supportive setting of the New Forest.

F.A.Q’s

What is Equine Assisted Learning (EAL)?

Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) is a hands-on educational program where children and young people actively interact with horses to build confidence, enhance communication skills, and develop emotional awareness. Moreover, through safe, guided activities, participants not only learn valuable life skills but also form meaningful connections with both horses and nature.

Do children need prior horse experience?

No prior horse experience is needed. In fact, our Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) programs welcome both beginners and experienced participants. As a result, every child can actively engage with horses and gain valuable skills through guided, hands-on interactions in a safe and supportive environment.

Is riding involved in the program?

No, our Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) program focuses on ground-based activities such as grooming, leading, and caring for horses. Through these hands-on experiences, children actively build trust, deepen their understanding, and form meaningful connections with the horses in a safe and supportive environment.

What are the benefits of equine programs for home-educated children?

Our Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) and nature-based programs support home-educated children in building confidence, improving social skills, and managing emotions. By engaging in hands-on activities with horses and exploring the outdoors, participants actively enhance their wellbeing while enjoying meaningful learning experiences.

How are sessions structured?

Each session combines hands-on horse interaction, educational activities, and outdoor exploration. We adapt the activities to match each child’s interests and support needs, ensuring a safe and engaging environment that promotes learning, confidence, and wellbeing.

What safety measures are in place?

All programs follow strict safety protocols, including wearing helmets, receiving continuous supervision from trained staff, and interacting only with calm, well-trained horses. We prioritise keeping every participant safe and supported throughout their experience.

Are the programs suitable for children with special needs?

Our equine programs are fully inclusive and adaptable to support children with various functional needs, including autism, ADHD, and other learning differences. Every child enjoys a safe, supportive environment where they can thrive.
